“Alkermes is a diverse group of professionals dedicated to a common goal”
Alkermes is a pharmaceutical production company. The organisation is based upon the strategy of “Best Fit”, which is clarified by the statement above. However, throughout my project I will illustrate that Alkermes could further thrive through another strategy.
Generic HR Strategy
The generic Human Resource strategy that I believe is the most appropriate for the Athlone facility to align with Alkermes corporate strategy is “Best Practice”. I believe that organisations can prosper and observe performance improvements if they implement effective practices and policies. With a workforce of 450 people and 505,000 square-feet, the Athlone facility is a large organisation and it has intentions of increasing production “fourfold”. Therefore it is important they have the correct people and quantity of people in their designated areas of profession. These professions differ considerably from skilled such as “formulated scientist and analytical chemists” to less skilled like “manufacturing staff”, but it is important that they produce their products as efficiently as possible in the most effective way in order for them to keep a competitive advantage. This practice is based on repeatable procedures but with a solid adoption of good practice, it has proven to be successful and in my opinion will be a key role for Alkermes in order to generate a sustained competitive advantage.
