While You Were Sleeping Analysis

The film “While You Were Sleeping” takes place in the 1990s in Chicago. This film was directed by Jon Turteltaub and had two screenwriters, Daniel G. Sullivan and Fredric Lebow. The story starts with Lucy Eleanor Moderatz at her booth at the train station or her job. She would see Peter Callaghan every day and she soon fell in love with him. One day she saw Peter get pushed onto the train tracks, jumps onto the tracks, and saves Peter from being crushed by a train. Peter went into a coma because of the head injury he sustained from the fall onto the train tracks and when he was taken to the hospital, Lucy couldn’t see him because she wasn’t family. A miscommunication happened at the hospital and Peter’s family were led to the think that Lucy
The given circumstances for Lucy are her parents are dead, she’s in love with a man that she’s never talked to, and she’s lonely. The given circumstances for Peter is that he is rich and takes the train. The given circumstances for Jack are that he doesn’t want the family business his father made. Lucy lives in a little apartment, Peter lives in a big elegant apartment, and Jack’s home was never brought up or shown in the film. Lucy’s mental and physical health statuses are both fine, but she is a lonely woman. Peter’s mental health is questioned when he gets amnesia because he doesn’t remember Lucy, but he really never met her; his physical health is okay in the beginning because he was in a coma but was doing fine when he was in it. At the end of the film, he was perfectly fine because he wasn’t in a coma anymore and he didn’t have anything such as amnesia like everyone thought. Jack’s mental and physical health statuses are better than his brother and Lucy’s. Jack and the rest of his and Peter’s family are Catholics. Lucy is around 5’7 with brown, mid length hair, brown eyes, she always has some type of sweater on, and is in her late twenties. Peter is around 5’9 with blue eyes, brown hair, a dimple on each cheek, and is in his early thirties. Jack is around 6’2 with greenish blue eyes dirty blonde hair, and in his earlier thirties. The quality of the acting was impressive; the actors made me get tears of happiness and get mad when Lucy, and Jack, wouldn’t tell each other they wanted to be together. All the subtle hints that were put into the movie were picked up on which helped the audience to understand where the story was going. The quality of the actors was incredible; I felt like I was in the movie watching what was going on with the family and Lucy. In the film, the main characters were all played by well-rounded actors that can pull and intrigue the audience and their emotions. Lucy Moderatz was played by Sandra Bullock, Jack Callaghan was played by Bill Pullman, and Peter Callaghan was played by Peter Gallagher. The actors brought out many emotions from the audience, including myself, and brought them into the story.
The director’s ability to tell this story was exquisite. The director helped the actors be able to grab the audience’s attention and pull their emotions in while they were at it. The audience was able to follow the storyline without any confusion at
