The Auguste clown, as it is commonly referred to, found its origins in the mid 1800’s. It varies in appearance from other clowns because it lacks full face makeup. Instead, the august clown wears only thick white lines painted around both eyes and the mouth and has little red, pink, and tan color. The Auguste clown tends to dress in exaggerative clothing with it being either too small or too big. A wardrobe that is bold in color is typically accompanied by suspenders.
