Summary: In Japan where baseball, soccer, and sumo are popular, rugby became a part of Japanese culture as they won over the two time World Cup winner, South Africa. Everyone was shocked of how Japan who was not even close to victory in the past was able to stand victorious over the high standard rugby team of South Africa. This political cartoon created by Signe Wilkinson was published in the Philadelphia Inquirer in 2019. This cartoon depicts a female and male soccer team opposite each other, with the female team being treated indifferently, by the Soccer Federation in the centre, despite its substantial success. Through this political cartoon, Wilkinson aims to inform U.S rugby enthusiasts about the Soccer Federation’s indifference in U.S women’s soccer compared to U.S men’s soccer despite the U.S women’s soccer success. Wilkinson achieves this through: emphasising the size of the women’s soccer ball, employing statistics within both the U.S men and women’s soccer ball to demonstrate logos, and highlighting the text on the soccer shoes to encourage change to the treatment of U.S women’s soccer.…

Sport is entrenched in the sociocultural foundations of New Zealand. It has a dominant place in society; belonging in the same category as family, economy, media, politics, education, and religion (Donnelly, 1996). Like many of the aforementioned spheres of our lives, sport is a social construction, providing a window into the sociocultural context of which we live (Allport, 1985). Being a “social construction” we must attempt to understand sport by approaching it as a social fact, therefore sociologically, as opposed to how we would with objects or events in the biophysical world – through science and numbers. Understanding sociology as “the study of social relations undertaken from the point of view of people who operate within those social…

Many would venture to say it is undeniable that Presidential campaigns and elections is something that is never fun. The amount of money, time, effort, and hard work that goes into everything can make things very demanding. In addition, not knowing if you will be victorious makes things even worse. However, presidential elections can be very jaw-dropping; as is the case with our two candidates currently running against each other. Generally, I would venture to say that no one saw this coming. A presidential race between Trump, and Hilary—two individuals that don’t sit to well with the American People. Furthermore, I believe that it has gotten to a point where if Hilary wins, there will be an uproar; and if trump wins there will be an uproar.…
