Who Is Bailey In The Night Circus
In the passage “The Night Circus”, Bailey was dared by his sister to sneak into the Circus when it was closed. This causes Bailey to show his emotions and reactions throughout the passage. Bailey is curious and determined to fulfill the dream that his sister set. When Bailey visits the Circus, he is very curious and amazed by all of the events and activities that were there. Sadly, when Bailey was six, his parents decided that he was too young to go to the circus. Bailey, “Could only stare from afar, enchanted, at the tents and the lights. He had hoped it would stay long enough for him to age properly into old enough, but it vanished without notice after two weeks, leaving too-young Bailey heartbroken” (2-3). Even though he is not supposed to be there, “Bailey finds that he does, actually, want to go inside. Not just because of the dare, but because he is curious. Dreadfully, hopelessly curious, a snare. And beyond proving himself to Caroline and her gang, beneath the curiosity, there is that need to return tugging at him” (25). Bailey is determined to prove his sister wrong, and he is also still curious about the circus. He is breaking the rules for his sister, which shows his determination for the dare. Bailey is also a bit hesitant about entering. He thinks to himself: “He does hesitate, just for a moment, but he knows he will hate himself later if he doesn’t at least try, no matter what might happen after” (28). Bailey is thinking about his decision to sneak in, but he cannot live with the guilt that he didn't go inside the circus. This action shows his determination to enter the circus, even if he is hesitant to go inside. While he is sneaking around the circus, he finds a girl and she tells Bailey that he is not supposed to be here. So the girl helps Bailey find an exit from the circus so that he doesn't get
