In this situation, Elizabeth and Mr. Wickham’s relationship appears to be an “ any enemy of my enemy is a friend of mine” situation. Although Elizabeth had barely known Wickham at the time, she trusts him based on her dislike for Darcy. After Mr. Wickham speaks of Mr. Darcy’s past, Elizabeth notes, “I can much more easily believe Mr. Bingley's being imposed on, than that Mr. Wickham should invent such a history of himself as he gave me last night; names, facts, everything mentioned without ceremony. If it be not so, let Mr. Darcy contradict it. Besides, there was truth in his looks,”pg.147. It is quite interesting to note that Elizabeth is so blinded that she trusts Mr. Wickham after merely knowing him for five minutes. Mr. Wickham seems eager to tell the story of his life to someone he has barely met, and Elizabeth savors every word he says. Usually, one would not trust the stories of a stranger, but when the story is about someone whom both share a mutual dislike for, the story seems quite believable. Although the initial impression of Darcy was completely made by his actions, the theme of prejudice is prevalent through Elizabeth and Mr. Wickham’s
