character is described differently by every author but the only thing that stays the same is the snakes for hair and her deadly stare. When she is alive, she is a danger to all human kind. However, once Percious defeats her, her head is used to defeat the other monsters. As a result of that, Athena made Medusa’s head a symbol of great power. Medusa had two sisters: Stheno and Euryale. Medusa was said to be the only mortal out of the three. The parents of the trio Gorgon sisters were said to be Phorcys and Ceto. Her father, Phorcys, was an ancient sea-god who presided over the hidden dangers of the deep. Her mother, Ceto, was a marine goddess who personified the dangers of the sea. Before Medusa was changed into the hideous beast, she was raped by Poseidon. And due to her transformation she was not able to have their children the normal way. Once Percious slashed her throat, blood oozed out and from her blood sprang Chrysaor and Pegasus. Chrysaor was the hero of the golden sword and Pegasus was the famous white-winged horse. Medusa was not always a monster.
She was once a beautiful golden haired girl who everyone desired. However she was a priestess to Athena, the goddess of war. Medusa needed her purity in order to serve Athena, because the goddess wanted her servants to devote their energy into their work and not any other activities. Unfortunately, Poseidon was attracted to Medusa and desired her so much but the only way to have her was to force her into it. Medusa became the victim of rape and apart from her traumatic experiences; she was punished for a crime that she did not willingly commit. Athena grew very angry and jealous so she transformed Medusa into a horrifying beast. Her hair was replaced by venomous snakes, her smooth skin was transformed into a cracked and scaly complexion and if someone looked into her eyes, they would immediately turn into stone. She was sent to live in a garden that was later filled with creatures that were turned to stone. Medusa lived like that for years and years and she thought that she was truly unstoppable. Until Percious came
along. Percious was sent on a quest to slash Medusa’s head off, but the one who sent him thought he was never going to make it. Fortunately he received help along the way from his father and other Gods and Goddesses. Once Percious arrived to Medusa’s garden he was more than ready. He used his hat to make him invisible and secretly slashed her head off her body. Victoriously he picked it up and took it back home. Along the way, Medusa’s head was used to turn many monsters into stone and many evil people as well. Therefore, Medusa was used for both bad and good.
Medusa did not choose to become a monster. She became a victim of a crime that she did not commit and was punished brutally. She was the only mortal from her whole family but she is the one who ended up being the most famous. She is known for her extraordinary appearance and her gruesome myths. Everyone labels her as a dangerous and hideous monster but she is much more than that. She was once a real person and many took advantage of her vulnerability. She was forced to become something that’s she’s not and all people saw was ugliness. She deserves more credit than what she’s given.
