Who Is Montag In Fahrenheit 451

In Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, Bradbury uses the life of a Guy named Montag, a fireman in a near future dystopia, to make an argument against mindless blissful ignorance. In Bradbury’s world, the firemen that Montag is a part of create fires to burn books instead of putting out fires. By burning books, the firemen eliminate anything that might make people want to be different or start any type of argument with anyone in the community. But this leads into people wanting to read the books so they keep them, like Montag but they end up being caught with the books. If you end up being caught you could possibly get killed or go to jail, but some people like Montag decide to run away from the community so they don’t get killed nor arrested.

Montag is a firemen in the firemen crew that was
in charge of burning the books that were found in the people's homes. This is very different from firemen today because the firemen today stop fires instead of starting them to burn books. The fire in the book didn’t necessarily care you were hurt in the process of burning the books. In the book one of the older women that had to have her house burned down because she had so many books, refused to let them burn the books so she decided to burn them herself and burn with them. The firemen did nothing to stop her from burning with the books or to save her.

Even though books were illegal people were still curious enough to have them.
People would hide them in their homes, like Montag. Montag would bring books home from work and hide them in their bathroom, in the clock, and flower vases. He was caught by his wife, His wife told Montag that he had two options either to burn all the books that were in their home, or she would leave him. Montag wouldn’t burn the books so his wife couldn’t take it anymore and turned in a picture of Montag, so the firemen would come to their home and take all of the books and burn them. Montag then would go to jail or be killed because he had so many books.

In some cases people will run away from the government so they won’t have to face the consequences of having books, like Montag. Montag ran away from his home and went to the book people. The book people are people who now live at the old railroad train tracks.They have also run away from their consequences.These people memorize a book of their choice and then burn the book just in case they get caught. When they become old they will help the next generation memorize the book, so they will never run out of people who know previous
book.
