Sorcha eventually has to leave the Briton, for surprising news has come - her father, who had been hurt from the death of his wife for so long, was now getting married to Lady Oonagh. During the first few days of their engagement, Lady Oonagh causes mischief in the house; she puts poison in a woman's food, uses her magic to make Cormack beat his dog, and uses her magic to kill Padriac's animals.
