Who Is The Monkey In The Stolen Party
In the story ”The Stolen Party”, the monkey represents Rosaura’s position and character. The monkey is naive, different than everyone else attending the party, and is like a servant who does whatever the master says. All is the same with Rosaura.

A monkey is naive and doesn’t understand what is going on around him. This is also true with Rosaura. Rosaura came to the party thinking she was a guest like everyone else, while in reality, she wasn’t. She lacked an understanding of social class and was therefore disappointed when she found out the real reason she was attending the party.
Rosaura’s ignorance is similar to a monkey because just as a monkey is unaware of the outside world, Rosaura is too.

In addition, the monkey is different than

It is believed that the human line of ancestry, along with the line of bonobo and chimpanzee, split about eight million years ago (http://songweaver.com). The bonobo is closely related to the chimpanzee but it is considered to be a different species (pygmy chimpanzee). When one looks at a bonobo, they may think that it looks a lot like a chimpanzee; however, if one takes a closer look, they will notice that the bonobo has longer legs, a higher forehead, and a different face shape (Relethford, Pg. 281). When it comes to the way of living, bonobos and chimpanzees differ as well. The bonobos…

While examining the primate I would look at their dental formulas. By looking at these characteristics it can help differentiate the New World Monkeys from the old world monkeys and apes. For example, if the primate were to have a 2.1.3.3 dental formula they would be considered a New World Monkey. After observing them and seeing if they are tree-dwellers I can also come to the conclusion that he or she is a New World Monkey. While looking at the nose we can also determine if they are Old World Monkeys, New World Monkeys, or apes. If their nose faces down they would fall under the category of apes and Old World Monkeys. However, after being examined and looking at their traits I would come to the conclusion that the primate is a New World…

But how physically different are these two primates? Not very much; both species have similar cranial capacity and physical features. Both apes are considered knuckle walkers with evident brachiation. The most notable difference in physical features is the split hairlines found in bonobos in contrast to the flat hair Chimpanzee. Average lifespan of both apes are quite close with Bonobos having a slightly lower average lifespan of 40 years while Chimpanzee can live up to 40-50 years (Lang KA, 2010). Perhaps the most different trait of each primate is how much physical deviation is between the genders. Sexual dimorphism is more apparent in Chimpanzees than in Bonobos. The average fully matured male bonobo weighs 86lb while average matured female bonobo weigh 68lb. Male Chimpanzees on the other hand weigh an average of 110lb while matured females can weigh 87lb (Lang KA, 2006). The outcome is that although there are slight physical, Chimpanzee and Bonobos are almost…

In the short story, “The Stolen Party”, Rosaura, the daughter of a house-keeper for a wealthy, high-class family, is invited t9o the family’s daughter’s birthday party. Because of their low social status, Rosaura’s mother insists she does not go. Her mother states “That one’s not your friend. You know what you are to them? The maid’s daughter, that’s what.” However, Rosaura does not agree with her mother and wishes to attend the party. She wishes to be accepted among her peers. After being treated differently through-out the story, Rosaura finally realizes that her mother was right. For example,, Senora Innes treated Rosaura as a servant, as she underhandedly made Rosaura serve cake and assist the magician during his sow. She was treated differently because of her low social status, and because of this, she was not accepted by the other children at the party. A similar barrier affects Sophie, from The Chrysalids. Due to the fact that Sophie was born with an extra toe, she was considered a mutant and was not legally allowed to be living in Waknuk. For instance, because of Sophie’s deformity, her and her family had to hide her from the people of Waknuk, to avoid being killed or sent to the fringes. But after David’s father, Joseph, found out about…

The significance of ending with the monkey story is that killing of evil so that no one else had to suffer with the same situation. It relates to the novel because Beah spoke at the U.N. about child soldiers to raise awareness, to prevent other children from being placed in similar situations as him. Allowing the truth to come to light, ultimately helped some child from being used as a soldier, because Beah used his voice to speak out. I felt that the ending of the novel reflects the good and bad we experience as humans. If we allow our dark times to consume us, we let those situations win. On the flip side if we grow stronger and speak out against injustice we faced, we save another person from going through the same…

When Rosa is given the power to do whatever she wants with Matt, she becomes corrupted. For example, “Bleating won’t save you, you good-for-nothing animal. No one can hear you… I could bury you under the floor --- and I might do it” (39). This evidence shows how Rosa abuses her power by talking to Matt like he is an unholy, filthy beast and keeping him completely isolated from the rest of humanity. Rosa’s quote is important to understand because it is where the corruption starts, but soon it escalates because no one has challenged her authority over Matt. Another piece of evidence is, “Rosa suddenly swung him up by his arms and tossed him inside. He landed with a whump and sat up coughing. ‘That’s what dirty beasts get to live in,’” (42). This citation highlights that Rosa has taken her power too far by forcing Matt to live in “deep litter” like a wild animal. The reason Rosa becomes corrupted is she was given so much power with little to no limitations. Given these points, Rosa is an example of how power corrupts the people who hold…

For many years, numerous individuals including anthropologists have attempted to explain how a single species evolved into another. From the time of Charles Darwin to Creationism, anthropologists have established that chimpanzees are human’s closet relative. Furthermore, with the extensive voluminous amount of information, not only are chimpanzees genetically and evolutionary similar to human but share analogous traits. For instance, chimpanzees like human make and utilized tools in various techniques. Another trait shared is eutheria, where offspring depend on the placenta and grown internally of their paternities. In addition to the highly mobile digits that assist chimpanzees in grasping and climbing. These illustrations are just a few. This paper is twofold; to highlight humans and chimpanzees shared traits that can aid in recreating the past of humans, secondly to heighten my knowledge of the evolution of humankind and chimpanzees.…

A major distinction between old world monkeys and new world monkeys is the structure of the nose. In new world monkeys, or platyrrhines, the nostrils face sideways, while in old world monkeys, or catarrhines, they face downwards. The distinction between Old World monkeys or catarrhines, from apes depends on dentition because the number of teeth is the same in both, but they are shaped differently.…
