She says how she doesn't want to go there and ever since he told her that she has been crying when no one else is around, when she is alone(Gilman-4). The reason this is so important in the story is because it shows how she shows her emotion when she is with and without company. Usually a husband is there to support his wife in her time of need and is a shoulder for her to cry on. Yet she doesn’t or isn’t able to. She then begins to see things that are clearly unreal such as the women who lurks in her room at night(Gilman-6). I believe her breakdown and depression is the cause of this.
She really never tells us what is wrong with her throughout the story because she probably doesn’t know what is wrong with her either. I don’t think she is dealing with being suicidal since she never really shows signs of it. Depression is a totally different thing than that. She is really never clear in to what is truly going on and she does not even know where her husband John goes throughout the day and her life is just a sad mess.
