The name Julius Caesar was an interesting choice for the play. Yes he was the leader of Rome and yes it was tragic when he was killed, but I feel this story is more centered on Brutus. Julius Caesar dies in the second act and then is out for the rest of the play except …show more content…
Antony says about Brutus, “This was the noblest Roman of them all”. Brutus only did what he thought was best for Rome. When he decided to kill Caesar he only did so because of the fake letters he received from Rome. Brutus allowed Antony speak at Caesar’s funeral because he knew that Caesar and Antony were really close. Cassius sent those letters to Brutus to convince him to help kill Caesar.
That is why I think that Cassius is the antagonist of the play. During the play Caesar says, “Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look. He thinks too much. Such men are dangerous”. Cassius lied to Brutus and never told him about the letters. I think if Cassius told Brutus about the letters, Brutus would think of Cassius differently. Brutus is very noble but Cassius is not. Cassius thinks more of himself than he is of Rome.
Everyone has his or her own opinion on Julius Caesar. I believe the play could’ve been called the Tragedy of Brutus because the story is mostly about him. I also believe that Brutus was the protagonist. All of his actions and everything that he did he thought it was best for Rome. I think the antagonist of the story is Cassius. He told lies, took in bribes for money, and thinks more of himself instead of Rome. Those are my opinions on the play Julius
