Who Moved My Cheese is a motivational book that gets us to seek inside ourselves and determine what type a person we are. Are we the two mice, named “Sniff” and “Scurry” or are we the two Littlepeople named “Hem” and “Haw”? I do believe that each of us has characteristics of each one of the characters in our life’s but that each of us uses our beliefs, experiences, and items in our lives that make us tick to determine which character we resemble. I was amazed at how many different circumstances in my life I could relate to each one of these characters. To me “Sniff” and “Scurry” reminded me of my younger years. Back in time, I was eager to get out and do many different things to try different things. I wouldn’t and/or couldn’t sit still for a minute and change – change was amazing because it allows us to do different things and not get bored with one thing. Was I the leader, to get out and go do – most definitely, I had friends that reminded me of “Scurry”. They would be busy bodies after we found what we were going to do. They would be making it happen. I would not sit around and wait for anything. I wanted to experience what life had to offer no matter the consequences because at such a young age we are resilient and bounce back rather quickly. As we get older I can see myself more like “Hem” and “Haw”. Well, never really like “Hem”. I just can’t sit there and believe someone owes me something and not think my actions have a play in what happens in my own life. I was diagnosed with relapsing polychondritis back in 2009. I was in complete denial of the disease for 3 years because it just wasn’t something I wanted to believe. I didn’t see doctors and I just “self medicated” with Aleve. Until one day in March 2012, my vision became affected. I started seeing double. It was easy to fix – just close the eye and see out of the other and keep moving on. But you know – it’s really difficult to read and comprehend with
