Once the girls start being questioned about their doings in the woods, Abagail began manipulating everyone around her, attempting to get them under her wing, under her control. When her plan wasn’t working as well as she anticipated, she began accusing others to save her own name, or take others down with her. Abagail’s active motivation is her desire to pursue Proctor. Her ultimate objective is to throw Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth, under the bus so that she is convicted and sentenced to death, making her one less obstacle to overcome. This motivation seems pretty extreme, so it may lead to the idea that the play is not really about the Salem Witch
