Most countries in the region remain authoritarian regime while few are democratic happens for a legitimate reason that Southeast Asia has unique features in local conditions. Patron-client ties have been existed and deeply rooted in the culture in the region for centuries, patrimonialism has shaped the political structure and revealed the inappropriateness of the politics. Patrimonialism contributes to the remaining of authoritarian regime in a way that authority is exercised by tho in power, control over the political process who are appointed by the strict obedience of citizens. Economic growth is a significant element that supports democratic regime. However, one serious problem for most countries in the region that try to achieve democracy is that the economic growth they made was far from the size that could become pushing factors motivates political change. Typical example is that how Cambodia and Lao failed to achieve democratic achieve because economic reforms did not successfully improve the well-being of the country and create a wealthy class to support democracy. Unlike Indonesia, gained democratic success after several regime changes, which put its emphasis on the decentralization of its military power that successfully expanded the capacity of the political structure and limited the military involvement in political affairs to buy off spoilers.28 Sustained economic growth is also helpful with democracy to stabilize. International trends also matters in shaping the political regimes of nations. Vietnam War caused Cambodia fell into the Communist rebels Khmer Rouge, whose brutal social transformation killed a great number of people. At the
