Why Are Politicians Are So Likely To Plagiarize
Based on the information from the article, why do you think politicians are so likely to

plagiarize others’ works? According to the article in New Yorker (Osmos, 2014) he talks

about what reasons why politicians plagiarize. He talked about how it’s out of habit. He

goes on about how they regularly give impassioned speeches that the staff written. I

think that sometimes the politicians don’t care about plagiarizing because of the

lack of consequences. (Osmos, 2014) “Another explanation is that political speech, unlike

regular communication, is rewarded for staying within prescribed boundaries rather than

venturing creatively."

An example of this is one of his secondary argument about a study conducted by scholars from University College London (Carr 3). This type of argument is a rhetorical example. This particular argument was well supported because it gave specific details how they came to the conclusion that everyone skims when conducting research. For example, the five-year research on paragraph eight where Carr explained how long the students stayed on the website for a short period of time and would hop to the next source of information. His primary thesis would be halfway through paragraph four “As the media theorist Marshall McLuhan pointed out…. Now I zip along the surface like a guy on a Jet Ski” (Carr 2). The reason I bring up his primary thesis/argument because the rhetorical example and this thesis relate to each other in a way that they both talk about the skimming activity. I think the argument was convincing because it provided evidence to back up their claim that the scholars had come to after…

Though most people would blame the student for the material they produce, they aren’t always the ones who are at fault. Patricia Cohen who wrote the article, “Thinking Cap: The Seemingly Persistent Rise of Plagiarism,” states that “If plagiarism were intentional, perhaps students who attended religious institutions, which emphasized traditional moral values, might be less likely to violate the rules.” After conducting a study, she had realized that it didn’t matter if the student came from a religious school or not, the results had remained the same; those being that five out of five students had somehow plagiarized. Because it is difficult to produce content that is completely original, it is hard to tell if the student is really at fault.…

Murphy works to convince us that professors are unfitted to manage plagiarism by showing us how when he has a suspicion, his emotions overtake his rationale and he becomes unable to individualized each case. He presents plagiarism as this "obsessive and bilious" (901) shadow-like experience, that once it appears, it possesses him and glooms his thoughts and actions rendering him unable to be fair. Once his imaginary alarm goes off, he ceases to see students as individuals, they become for him a sort of enemy to be trapped and…

Both students and academic institutions are to be blamed when it comes to plagiarism just like the article “Thinking Cap: The Seemingly Persistent Rise of Plagiarism” BY Patricia Cohen explained that at times students would plagiarize unintentionally but at the same time we have the students who either don't understand the topic and find it easy to copy some article off a website without giving the correct citations. Not only that but there are students who are lazy and just decided that they just want to copy an article believing that they might not get caught, but we also have the academic institutions to blame at times they don't teach students the proper way to cite when writing or at times if they do see it they don't talk to the students…

“Should I?” I asked myself. I was writing my English essay on Beverly Cleary the author of the famous children’s books such as Ramona and Beezus. Without a second to spare I clicked on my separated right finger and scrolled up to copy. After I finished pasting the words where I wanted my paper was complete. Or at least I thought I was. The next day I walked into class with high spirits and no worries about homework. As I bent down to into my hard, forest green, chair I heard a loud voice call my name. “Tatyana, Come to my desk now!” I slanted my head and was confused was I in trouble I thought as a presumed towards her desk. “Did you get this from the internet?” she asked with anger and disappointment in her voice. I replied “No.” but I felt as if I had a big sign on my forehead that said lying and my whole body shivered and twitched in agreement. “I’m very disappointed in you.” She said with anger. I remember getting a zero in the grade system and receiving detention, but I did not understand why. Why did I lie? Why was I being punished when I already finished my homework?…

Politicians plagiarise. Most of the time, this plagiarism is allowed to slide by and never comes to anything besides a few unhappy people and a couple complaints. Recently, Montana Senator John Walsh was found to have committed plagiarism and he used three excuses before saying, “I made a mistake here and I’m going to move on” (Osnos, “Why Politicians Plagiarize”). Politicians tend to plagiarise because the consequences are so inconsequential that they add up to barely more than nothing. The forgiveness rate is so high that politicians are almost untouchable when it comes to plagiarizing. This raises the question; why does plagiarism still occur when we have the software to prevent it? For that there is no answer. Still,…

Plagiarism is getting credit for work that was done by someone else. It is simply not giving the original author credit for their piece of work. Students plagiarize for many different reasons. Some of those reasons include but are not limited to laziness, lack of knowledge, and lack of time. Some students just don’t like to write and would rather get someone to write the paper for them or purchase a paper. There are many cases where the individual does not know the proper way of siting their sources. Last minute writing prevents the individual from having time to proof their paper for errors, which also leads to plagiarism. Waiting until the last minute…
