Do you think that a bully is going to take someone 1 or 2 years younger than him/her seriously when they tell the bully to stop bullying? I will bet you that more than 99.999% of the time the answer will be no. Because why should the bully take someone his or her age or a bit younger seriously? However when there are teachers involved that is a whole other story. When there is a higher authority figure involved the bully will definitely be more intimidated. Let’s say the deputy principal or principal gets involved, they have the power and authority to suspend, or in some cases even expel, the bully. THIS is why it is very important that teachers are always aware of the school environment and that no one is getting bullied. Sometimes children and teenagers feel powerless against bullies, I can say from experience that I agree with that statement. I felt extremely powerless against a bully that was shorter and the same age as me.Teachers can use their people skills to talk to learners because that’s what they do every day. So it is not a difficulty for teachers to talk to their learners. The teachers have a higher authority over the learners. They also know a lot of their learners quite well, as they watch them a lot and have an idea of what they are like and how they behave outside of the classroom.
