throughout every high school. Also, these surveys also include quantitative and qualitative data which show people's opinions and thoughts on cheating.
Cheating has become so common throughout high school and college “because it is an easy way out with slim chances of being caught,” said by one student who took part in the PLHS surveys.
There are many possible solutions to prevent cheating such as, remodeling the seating arrangement in the classroom so the teacher can everyone at once, and enforcing harsher punishments. In the article,”Trabuco Hills High busts students for text message cheating on tests,” written by Shimura stated,”as a punishment, the school banned his daughter and other seniors from going to prom.” This is a prime example of what could prevent seniors from cheating and being dishonest because prom is once in a lifetime thing for some people. Through personal experience I've seen many people get away with cheating by sitting in the back the their classroom on their phones which brings up another solution of collecting phones before
tests.
Students may blame teachers for their failures but, this is sometimes true according the qualitative data conducted by PLHS. A student stated that,” Had too much homework, and not enough time to complete it.” This quote shows that students are given too much homework by their teachers and are not given the proper amount of time to complete it, which leads them to cheating and asking a friend for their homework to copy, which then leads them to not knowing the material when it comes to taking a test. In the quantitative survey at PLHS, results show that 47.8% of students have said yes to some form of cheating in the last twelve months. In addition to that, 89.2% of those students that have said yes to cheating have copied someone else's homework in order to complete it on time.
A common saying goes around when about how, “you are only cheating yourself,” when you are cheating on something whether it is in school or out. This quote brings up a major point because when you are cheating in school it will only affect you in the long run, and you will most likely cheat later on in life at something else. For example, people who cheat in high school to get the better grade will never be able to obtain the information like someone who is academically honest. Also, when it comes to getting your degree in college and you’re still cheating and going the easy way out, you will most likely not be very successful in what you’re doing.
