• The U.S and the Spanish commander, Admiral Montojo, had his hope up that the shore battery will support them from the attack against the U.S. • The Spanish was still preparing for the attack until Dewey's ship came on April 30 and attacke them on May 1st and destroy the Spanish force.

U.S army wasn’t the best fighting force like the U.S navy in 1898 and they were short on numbers.
• Volunteers was called out for people to join the force.
• U.S landed in Cuba and fought El Caney and San Juan Hill winning the Spanish force until in July they became tired and was short on supplies. • The Spanish Fleet took advantage of that and broke into the U.S naval blockade and destroyed it

Calhoun to Cuba to bring back what was really happening and it was a heartbreaking news because many women and children were close to death.
• McKinley confronted Spain minister Stewart L. Woodford and gave him 3 months to end the war with Cuba. I. • If Stewart didn’t end the war U.S was going to intervene.
• February 9, the New York Journal sent out a private letter from the Spanish minister that stated Sagasta’s Cuban reforms was just a distraction to give Spain more time to beat Cuba in the war. • When McKinley found out about the letter, he wanted the Republican in Congress to release the consular report on Cuba and once it is public it would be an easy ticket for U.S to enter the war and end it.
• The USS Maine exploded on Feb. 15 in Havana harbor killing about 260-266 people. • Before Congress can release the consular report the cause of the ship exploding causing the U.S to enter the war.
