Why Critical Thinking Is Important To Me

Liberal arts classes have been of great importance to me since they have shaped me to become a better critical thinker. To begin with, humanities have equipped me with knowledge about people and how to be humane. By knowing that people are different and reason differently, I can empathize with them before drawing conclusions. By studying social sciences, my mind has become open to the world, and I can, therefore, view things from different perspectives (White, 2011). I no longer limit my judgments to my perceptions of the situations. I explore possibilities before drawing conclusions. The knowledge of natural sciences have enabled me understand the distinctive functions of the brain and how they are interrelated (White, 2011). I can tell how my wants affect my thinking and how thinking will result in generation of thought and consequently influence my actions. I therefore become very cautious and take control of my emotions.
Communication skills have equipped me with skills that have molded me to be an ethical thinker, and thus my thinking is not of subjective preference (Coppin & Mathematical Association of America, 2009). I can distinguish the norms and taboos of my social group from the ethical principles. Critical thinking has lured me to get out of the cocoon and view things from a worldwide perspective. My thinking is not limited to what my societal norms dictate. Liberal arts education has enabled me to reach beyond my own experiences and to see the world’s farthest distance. It has enabled me to embrace diversity and recognize the achievements of humanity and therefore I regard any differences as an opportunity to learn the other
