Douglas Macarthur (EGOMANIAC) was an American general who commanded the Southwest Pacific in World War ll. He commanded them from 1939-1945. He led the United ations in the Korean War and he also led the 42nd division in France for World War l . He also went on to be the chief of staff of the Army. In October he regained the Philippines. He was removed from his command because Douglas Macarthur had some conflict with Harriet Truman over war policy.

Island hopping was basically a strategy that the United States used to gain military bases and to secure the many small islands in the Pacific. They would attack and capture the Japanese-held islands between Hawaii and Japan. MacArthur met up with Will Hasley, and they came up with a plan.

    2. SSgt Arnold is a self-starter that made an immediate impact on the leadership and performance of the company. He was easily the top sergeant and was routinely given tasks normally reserved for SNCOs. Marines under his charge were always well organized and highly motivated directly due to his efforts. One specific noteworthy achievement was his intervention and direct actions when faced with an attempted suicide. He fearlessly stepped into the point of friction, correctly and swiftly took action without guidance and limited information on the situation. His actions and maturity were responsible for safe guarding a life of a fellow Marine. In addition, then Sgt Arnold masterfully performed as a Section Head/Area Supervisor for the Henoko Ammunition Supply Point. In this capacity, he was responsible for 22 ammunition magazines with 2500 line items of explosive materiel valued at roughly $90 million dollars. During his time in the storage section the inventory accuracy rating was a stellar 98.3% well above the DoD requirement of 95%.…

On December 8, 1941 the Japanese Fourteenth Army, under the command of General Tomiyuki Yamashita conducted an assault on American forces stationed in the Philippines The Japanese Army had attacked Pearl Harbor and caught the entire Pacific Fleet off guard, not they had set their sights on the Philippines in a need to secure an outpost closer to the United States. During this attack and for three years after the Japanese has seized the island, CPT Russell Volckmann was forced into situations that required his leadership style and techniques to be dynamic in nature. By all accounts Russell Volckmann was considered an average infantry officer within his unit. Yet during his three years behind Japanese lines Russell Volckmann’s use of situational leadership allowed him to evaded a well supplied and reinforced army, united tribal leaders in northern Philippines, organized an effective guerrilla force, and conducted guerrilla operations that enabled the United States forces to seize the Philippines and ultimately denying the Japanese access to the island.…

~ General MacArthur was the Army’s Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers, Commander in Chief of the United States Command and the Far East, and Commanding General of the U.S Army and the Far East. So basically he was top dog, and he was there for a reason. He supervised Japan’s transition into a modern, democratic nation in WWII; also, he called the orders for the counterattack on North Korea and succeeded. Most people saw him as a war hero, but conflict rose between him and President Truman, especially issues centered on the Korean War. Even though MacArthur’s counterattack was successful, Truman approved MacArthur’s request to pursue beyond the 38th parallel. When MacArthur met President Truman in person on Wake Island, he was described as being disrespectful. Not where his military uniform and shaking hands with the President instead of saluting him seemed odd. MacArthur publically accused Truman of “appeasement” regarding China, this infuriated Truman. During discussions on Wake, MacArthur assured the Chinese would not get involved. Further into the war, MacArthur pressed for permission to enter China, believing that defeating Communist China would be the only way to victory. Truman assured him he needed to follow orders, which turned out MacArthur, had underestimated the Chinese Army. Because of this, President Truman relieved MacArthur from Command. On April 19, 1951, he came before Congress to give a farewell speech.…

In just two months, Marshall promoted Eisenhower to the chief of the War Plans Division where he received his second general’s star. In June 1942, Marshall sent him to England on a special mission to build cooperation among the Allies as Commanding General, U.S. Army, European Theater.(Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum) It is remarkable to think this guy was just spotted by General Marshall and in just 2 quick months he would be promoted to Chief of war plans. This really goes to show how good he was at his job that he was promoted so quickly while being admired by his peers. Starting in November 1942, Eisenhower headed Operation Torch, the cooperated Allied invasion of North Africa. He then coordinated the land and/or water capable attack of Sicily and the Italian terrain in 1943 that prompted to the fall of Rome in June 1944. Eisenhower was selected leader of the Allied Expeditionary Force in December of that year and given the obligation of initiating the arranged Allied invasion of Nazi-run Europe. On D-Day (June 6, 1944), more than 150,000 Allied strengths crossed the English Channel and raged the shorelines of Normandy; the intrusion prompted to the freedom of Paris on August 25 and handed the hold of the war over Europe conclusively in the Allied course. Having ascended from Lieutenant colonel in the Philippines to incomparable authority of the successful strengths in Europe in just five years, Eisenhower returned home to a legend's welcome in 1945 to fill in as head of staff of the U.S. Armed force.(Smith) A quote from Eisenhower that I really like because it can be related to many aspects of life is,“In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless. But planning is indispensable.(Eisenhower "National Defense Executive Reserve Conference").” This shows how hard of a hard worker…

In the Second World War he returned to the Philippines in 1944 after Japan took it over. A troop under MacArthur during World War II in the Pacific was John F. Kennedy, who became president in the election of 1960. He gained his title of a hero when his boat was attacked by a Japanese destroyer. Although many of his crew members were greatly injured, he was able to push them through a three mile swim to the closest island. After this he received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, as well as the Purple Heart for the injuries he received in the attack. The final naval war hero is George H.W.
