Why Did Islam Spread So Quickly
Islam is the fastest growing religion, and it all started with an orphan boy that worked as a merchant trader, squeezed hard by the Angel Gabriel causing God’s words to flow through the boy’s mouth. And Prophet Muhammad of Islam was born. Islam originated from Mecca in 610 specifically in a cave near Mount Hira. Prophet Muhammad is the messenger of god, he would recite the words of Allah (God) in public, he traveled across the Middle east with his followers. After his death Islam had reached not only the Middle East but Europe and Asia. Islam spread so quickly because of the trade routes, the religious message, and their political message. The first reason Islam spread so quickly is because when merchants moved around the middle east and other places they advertised Islam. According to Great Ages of Man : Early Islam by Desmond Stewart & the editors of Time-Life Books, “ Adding to the profits from caravans was a brisk pilgrimage trade, for Mecca was the site of Arabia ‘s holiest pagan shrine [the Ka’ba]” (Doc A). In the Qur’an (Islamic sacred book, God’s words dictated to Prophet Muhammad from Angel Gabriel) one of the verses state “...(W)hoever killed a human being, except as punishment for murder or any other villainy…, shall be deemed as having killed all mankind ; and who ever saved a human life shall be deemed as having saved all mankind…(5:32) (Doc B). This relates to the question because when people heard about Islam’s fair rules they wanted to join. The quote is one of the laws of Islam that influenced people to convert to Islam. When they heard about how when one kills someone they will not be off the hook and will never get peace again. But if someone saves a person they will receive an eternity of peace. It made people feel safe and just. That’s why the organization and just laws of Islam helped spread

Islam is shown to spread quickly because of the Muslim’s respect toward other people’s religion. J.J. Sounders (Doc # 5) states, “ Mohammed respected the older monotheistic faiths… he called them “People of the Book”… they were not forced into Islam but were allowed to retain their ancestral religion on payment of tribute.” J.J. Sounders states that Mohammed respected other religions, which, in turn, allowed the Islamic civilization to grow. J.J. Sounders also states that Mohammed allowed other people to keep their faith by paying a tribute; this also shows respect toward other religions by the Muslims. Mohammed himself asks other people that are not of the Islamic belief to pay tribute and be spared (Doc #1). Mohammed respects other beliefs by giving the non-Islamic people options which included an option to just pay a tribute instead of attacking them without warning just because they were of another belief.…
