The first way that the Islamic religion was spread quickly was the expanding trade routes. Islam was and still is centered in Mecca, and so were the trade routes. Mecca is easily fortified, but it also had many direct trade routes to and from neighboring large cities and towns. As the government got stronger, they were able to expand Islam to new places. At its peak, the empire spanned from Spain to western Asia and Northern Africa. Being this large, they gained many new followers. However, without the help of a strong and determined army, they would have never been able to expand to this scale. Furthermore, being that Muhammad’s followers were so dedicated to Islam, this made the army even stronger and more capable of conquering lands. The Muslims also specifically and strategically took over tribes consisting of people from another religion. In addition, Muslims were liked by many people outside of the the muslim community. Once again, these attributes allowed the number of Muslims and the span of Islam to
