Why Did Reconstuction Failed Society
Although Reconstuction was a time period of change only few changes were made and some of those

changes did not have an long lasting effect. Reconstruction aimed to reconnect the South with the rest of the

Union and assimilate blacks into American culture. Reconstuction failed society because it was a short lived

success and the Freedsman Borough was of little service.

Reconstruction was successful in restoring the Union but lacked significantly in trying to assimilate blacks

into society. After reconstuction was over white southerners still degraded blacks and did everything in their

power to prevent them from becoming their own people and living up to their own equal potential as whites.

    The Reconstruction was the period during which the United States began to rebuild after the Civil War, lasting from 1865 to 1877. It was to repair the North and the South politically, economically and socially. After the Civil War, the South’s economy was completely ruined and needed help from the Union government; which they were trying to stay way from. The Reconstruction can be evaluated both as a success and a failure. Its successes were the restoration of the eleven confederate states back to the union, giving African-Americans (ex-slaves) their freedom and rights and providing aid to the freed slaves and poor whites. Its failures were the Anti-African Americans groups such as the KKK, the Black Codes, not protecting the rights of the freedmen and the southern corruption. Although African-Americans were freed and gained their rights because of 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, and the ex-eleven confederate states came back to the union, the Reconstruction was more of a failure than a success.…

    There were some issues that the Reconstruction had successfully dealt with. The first more crucial developments that were made were the three amendments that were added: the prohibition of slaves (#13), the establishment of civil rights for ex-slaves (#14), and suffrage for blacks (#15). The reason for these improvements being the most important is that they directly address the issues that were fought over in the Civil War. These amendments made the North’s reasons for battling into the official law of the land. Had these conditions not had been supported by the law, no one would have any incentive to follow them. Schooling and job training were also made available to black Americans which would, ideally, enable them to make contributions to the nation, as all other American citizens were expected to. Another improvement was the establishment of a public education system in the South. This was important because a large number of white Americans living in the South were uneducated and relied on their farms to survive and the slaves to upkeep them. Reconstruction ended when President Rutherford Hayes forced the Union troops to retreat from the southern states as a deal with the Democrats to grant him the spot of presidency. The success or failure of Reconstruction may have been one of the most controversial questions in all of history because the answer cannot be justified. The solution to the success or failure of Reconstruction depended on the intent of the matter. Based on the fact of the reunification of the Union, Reconstruction may be considered a success for accomplishing this goal. On the other hand, Reconstruction may also be recognized as a failure if the main idea revolved around the equality of the blacks. The situation regarded both aspects of Reconstruction. Therefore, it is reasonable to conclude that this time period should not be labeled as a “failure” or a “success” because these are just arbitrary terms to define whether the conflict was good or bad which is solely a matter of opinion. Some of the intentions of Reconstruction were fulfilled, while other conditions of the Union remained the same. Many aspects of Reconstruction contributed to the success of the United States, but leaning towards the dissenting argument would be more legitimate.
