The Roman Empire was one of the greatest empires that ever existed. The Roman empire seemed as if it would never fall because of its advancement in technology. Sadly, like most great empires it did fall. This was due to four major issues which were; political, economic, deadly diseases and foreign invaders. One of the huge reasons why the Roman Empire fell was political problems. Most of leaders in Rome were unfit rulers, meaning they were either greedy, cruel emperors, or they inherited the throne but were mentally unstable. One of those rulers was Nero. He killed his own mother to get more power and in the end he slit his own throat. Many think that he might of burned down the city of Rome. Some of the leaders were assassinated by their own Praetorian Guard. The guard did this for money or for a position. Eventually Civil wars started to break out in Rome, and the legions attacked each other. The citizens revolted against corrupt government , poor living conditions and high taxes. …show more content…
An enormous economical problem was caused by raised taxes in order to pay the demanding legions salaries. After that another issue was created, the people of Rome grew hungry to purchase more goods from other empires. As a result there was less economical growth within Rome and Pirates began stealing goods and ships on the Mediterranean Sea. Tariffs began to increase on many imported goods. Furthermore a lack of gold was imported to Rome because there were no new conquests of land therefore less coins were produced and there were less gold in the coins. Inflation started to occur so people bartered rather than paying money. Farming decreased because of financial difficulties and famine slowly began to occur, people began to migrate into the cities for more money and
