Then the people of the church moved into the belief of Divine Right. This is where you are “chosen” by God to be his representative. Then Absolute Monarchies came along which is Absolute Power but the Divine Right theory is involved. How did they become so powerful? They increased
the size of their army as much a possible. They did this by raising taxes which often lead to peasant revolts. To deal with that they got bigger armies. They had to raise taxes which would lead to a bigger revolt. It was all a vicious cycle.
Absolute Monarchs are born into their royal tree along with any other members of their family. Monarchs often had peasants to do all their work for them. They were treated very well and got a lot of fancy and expensive things. This included robes, shoes, wigs, food, and houses. All or at least 98% of the Absolute Monarchs (which is a form of King or Queen) Believes that all the power rests in their hands. They also believe that there is no limits to their power.
Next we focus more on Divine Right. Divine Right is the idea that God created the monarchy. A monarch is God’s representative on Earth. The Absolute Monarch answers only to God and not to their subjects. They use this theory to use religion to attempt to discourage any disagreement with the Absolute Monarch. The vast majority of Absolute Monarchs did actually try to do God’s will because they were more obsessed with their own well being.
In conclusion the Dark Ages sparked the Renaissance. In turn sparking the Reformation. Next starting the theory of Absolute Power, then Divine Right. Finally they settled on Absolutism, and what is Absolutism? It is the “binding” of the Divine Right and the Absolute Power, making an Absolute Monarch. Those were the effects of some of the connections of religion time periods on Europe.
