troops in Vietnam were barely fighting; in April of 1972 the North Vietnamese attacked the South in a traditional invasion with tanks. Even though the U.S. helped the South Vietnamese turn the attack back, it was terribly defeated. At this point, Nixon’s administration was falling apart; the Watergate scandal and the pentagon papers, which were secret documents revealing the secret bombings and other details were published and the U.S. people were mad. The Vietnam war is an incredibly controversial topic; some say America won, while others say that they lost. In this case, America took a major loss, they were never winning at any point. The reason the Americans officially lost the war is because they were unable to achieve their goal which was to stop the spread of communism in Vietnam. In fact, the exact opposite happened, after the American forces left South Vietnam in January of 1975, communism immediately overran it. Along with the reasoning behind why the Americans lost are 3 points which will give a deeper explanation on why the U.S lost the Vietnam war. First of all the Americans lost because the North Vietnamese wanted to win more than they did. Following this is the American’s bombing strategies that proved to be horrendously ineffective because they were choosing to bomb locations that would end up giving them no real advantage. Thirdly, and quite possibly the biggest reason that lost America the war was their attempt to fight a war of Attrition against the North Vietnamese strategy of Guerilla warfare…

From the 1950s to the mid-1970s, the Vietnam War was a conflict between North Vietnam and South Vietnam over political ideologies and imperialist beliefs. The North was communist and the South with the aid of America was anti-communist. While some may argue the US won because of pride, more infantry, more powerful weapons, I believe North Vietnam won because they came out in a better position. North Vietnam won the war because they reunited as one country, their tactics were better, and released communist ideas across the country. Even though North Vietnam took a loss in solider deaths, they still took their country and it became theirs.…

In contrast to other wars, the United States escalading involvement in Vietnam divided the American people like none other causing an anti-war sentiment in the US, and caused old sown ties from the United States developed in WWII to be tested. Even though many of the effects of this war can still be seen today, Diem’s assassination, the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution, the policy of gradual escalation, and the bombing campaign lead the increasing power of the United States intervention, as UN power, to be set in the middle of full blown Vietnam War. The Vietnam war began in the mid twentieth century where a majority of conflict centered around the communist forces of North Vietnam, including the Viet Cong, and its opposition of Southern Vietnam…

I believe that America lost the Vietnam War because they were unprepared. America did not need to get involved in the conflict, and it would’ve been possible to avoid most of the apparent consequences America endured. Preparation alongside careful consideration would have benefitted America in deciding if they were required to utilize measures that were proven to be irrationally harsh. Evaluation of the Vietcong’s knowledge of effective warfare would have been impactful in aiding American and Southern Vietnamese forces alike.…
