The Vietnam War lasted from November 1, 1955 until April 30, 1975. It was considered a loss for the United States because we intervened in a conflict that was really none of our business, but it was also a win because a peace treaty was signed and the North Vietnamese surrendered. America lost 58,220 soldiers and many more
than that returned home with injuries both physical and mental.
South Vietnam was backed by anti-communist countries such as the United States, South Korea, Australia, the Phillipines, New Zealand and Thailand. The North Vietnamese wanted to reunify Vietnam. They saw the war as a continuation of the First Indochina War against French forces and later the United States. It was a long, costly war for everyone involved.
