It also has a story about two medical residents who committed suicide, and it seems like it’s written from a doctor’s perspective. The author writes about how two medical residents committed suicide only in their second month of residency training. Some of the statistics on doctor suicide are that (DQ) “physicians are more than twice as likely to kill themselves as nonphysicians (and female physicians three times more likely than their male counterparts) (Sinha, P). One of the risk factors for physician suicide is the long hours medical residents work per week, which is around 80. There is more risk for young medical residents to commit suicide at the beginning of their residencies. There is a tremendous pressure new medical interns feel to be their best at what they do, and they stress too much on doing everything perfectly. It is helpful to talk out their frustrations and fears with other medical interns and let go of their fears and emotions instead of bottling them up and feeling like they’re all alone. Therapy and Socialization are just two of many preventative methods for physician suicide, but too often it is too late to identify depression and suicidal thoughts in a suffering
