Why Do Marriages Fail?
Why Do Marriages Fail? In the world today, there are a lot of people wanting to marry the first person they fall in love with. However, many married couples realized that this kind of marriage is not what they want, so they turn to divorce as an answer. Even though there are many ways to fix the problems that occur in a marriage, sometimes, nobody wants to use them. It is certain that the causes of divorce vary from couple to couple. The most common reasons marriages fail are communication, the altering role of women, infidelity and unconsciously of choosing a mate based on your parents. Firstly, one of the most common reasons why marriages fail is that people will not listen to one another . In today 's society there are very few good listeners in the world. After marriage, people think that they already know everything about their spouse. They could know just the opposite. Two spouses must always keep a form of communication with each other. If a person begins to fail to listen to the one another; then someone could think that the other is not being true to the marriage. Annie Roiphe Why Marriages Fail?” stated “ A man and a woman must be able to tell each other how they feel and why they feel the way they do; otherwise they will impose on each other roles and actions that lead to further unhappiness.” (Annie Roiphe, 552) Good communication is an important part of a healthy relationship. When people stop communicating well, they stop relating well, and times of change or stress can really bring out disconnect. As long as you are communicating, you can work through whatever problem you’re facing. I’ve have witnessed firsthand how the lack of communication can destroy a marriage. My oldest sister had gotten married to her high school sweetheart. They had two kids together and eventually brought their own house together. Things began to go downhill when my sister’s husband started experiencing drugs. They both worked long hours at work and hardly

Sometimes we underestimate the importance of communication. In relationships between two people, they find themselves in a place of comfort and familiarity. This causes one to think that because they are close and they can finish each other sentences and understand each other better then anyone else, life is perfect and there will never be any need to work on how to communicate. This façade can cause conflict and mask that fact that their communication is poor.…

“The advantage to marriages with low expectations is that they have built in shock absorbers.” If the couple discovers that they have nothing in common, it is not so much of a reason for divorce at it is what is expected of most marriage. Based on this same way of thinking, disagreements or disappointments, such as an affair, are not as traumatic and are in fact traditionally tolerated in the case of a husband’s infidelity. Incidences such as these don’t automatically point straight to divorce, as most wives see it as a mutual failure and can use the opportunity to look for ways of improving themselves so that it does not continually happen in the future.…

Reflecting on this article, I agree with its contents. As we get closer in a relationship, we dismiss the fact that we could be misunderstood by each other on certain situations or certain scenarios. “Getting close to someone appears to create the illusion of understanding more than actual understanding” (Health Day 2011). When this happens, we can become angry with the spouse because we expected them to understand what we meant or said. As couples, we want to believe that we are on the same page all the time because we are so close. Whether we are face to face, back to back, in another room, or on the phone with each other, misunderstanding can and will happen without further questioning from the other spouse. When something is said, it is the other spouse’s responsibility to make sure they are clear in what they are hearing. Without this tactic, there will be misinterpretations between the spouses. This creates unhealthy communication between the spouses.…

After reading the article “Close Relationship Sometimes Mask Poor Communication” it made me realize that I and my wife have poor communication skills. We been together for a good two years and we still haven’t gotten the proper communication between each other. She likes to be rude and cut me off while I’m trying to prove a point because she always thinks she’s right when clearly at times she’s wrong but won’t admit it. She always wants materialistic things and don’t understand the responsibilities that I have to take care of by myself due to me being the only one working. Also she always cry or be sadden if things doesn’t go her way and every time I get off of work there is always complaints or I want this and that from her. Another problem which is probably the biggest is that my wife always put our business out on social websites but can’t even come to me and communicate with me head on about the situation. This article opens my eyes and make me realize that it’s correct in a lot of sense.…
