Why Do People Conform
The world as we know it has always been changing, and we as people have always learned to conform with these changes. Humans have always found a way to adapt to change, or even change a situation to make their environment better. It would all start with an idea, or a realization that change was approaching, and so the minds of all ages would start working. Often times people would look at change as a new opportunity to start again at ideas that passed. Now however, change has made people conform. This conformity has made people around the world have a choice to make of which side they agree with. “It’s us or them” has become an extremely popular phrase as of late, making crime rise, causing tears in social culture, and forcing people to question …show more content…
Once the people of a nation are divided, there will always be a side to choose, conformity will become competitive. Competition will often be something of a small healthy rivalry, but too often now this rivalry will get out of hand and cause more harm than it was initially meant to. This unhealthy competition will test the limits of the how people think, waiting with an idea of revenge for whomever is the rival, only pushing one another to take the retaliation more aggressive than the one before. This division might come off as nonconformity, but in order for there to be a competition, there will always be one against the other, which can lead to having one group against another. Crips against Bloods, the Las Angeles Angels against the Las Angeles Dodgers, both having followers, both resembling the ideology that one is better than the other. Granted that one is only a baseball team that will often time be noted as America’s greatest pastime. The other is a rivalry between a gang that has lead to hundreds of deaths that has been sweeping the nation in low income communities. The two in comparison are extremely different, but both have had followers that have had conformed with the idea that one is better than the

    The causes of conformity among individuals have long been debated and researched in recent decades. It is for this reason that conformity is an intriguing psychological concept. It causes sound-minded individuals to go against their best judgement, to engage in behaviour which they usually would not engage in, even accept and welcome an idea they internally disagree with, all in order to not be a deviant from the group.     According to the DSM IV-TR (American Psychiatric Association, 2000), the diagnostic category of pervasive developmental disorders (PDD) refers to a group of disorders characterized by delays in the development of socialization and communication skills.
