Why Do People Lie?
Why Do People Lie?
I.- Why do people lie?
Everybody lies. It may only be “white” lies, but everyone tells lies or “omits the truth” sometimes.

They lie to protect themselves, look good, gain financially or socially and avoid punishment.
Often caught in an awkward situation, what do you do? Quick escape. Easy. Lie. But seriously, why do we do it? Is it because we're afraid of the consequences that the truth will bring us?

Maybe quick fix is the reason why people lie. People often say they've already done something that someone asked when the truth is they haven't even started yet! Quick run, now is the time to do it, you already said you've done it. Come on, can't you say you haven't really done it yet and you're just about to start but you're gonna do it really quick? I know, some might say 'look who's talking' or 'as if it's that easy'. I'm just venting out here, bear with me. I know I do that to, I mean who doesn't? But I don't do it as often, probably just on rare occasions, because I try not to hurt the other person involve. I mean if it's just the time that you slept, why wouldn't you say the truth?

Why do people lie? For self-defense, to spare feelings, to protect feelings, to keep a secret, to present a good image, to be liked, to manipulate a person, and to keep a person’s trust

1-Some people lie because they want to protect themselves. They may be afraid of a certain situation or conflict. Children lie so they do not get in trouble. They want to avoid the consequences and or punishment for what they had done. Teenagers and adults also do the same. People who lie know they have done something that will anger or disappoint another person. I lie to my mother about the cost of my clothes or shoes. My brother often lies about a buddy he was going to hang out with. These lies are said to get away from punishment or to avoid a fight. A person who lies may not have done anything wrong, but would rather not have to give reason for or explain to

Stephanie Ericsson is going to explain lying in her article “Ways We Lie” her main point is to show that lying is not only going to hurt you but also others. I agree with Ericsson about all people lie. Ericsson starts off with explaining the white lie which is a lie that you use when you think it is necessary to lie rather than to tell the truth. Sometimes you think a lie is easier for someone to handle rather than the cold hard truth.…

It has become normal for children as well as adults to lie in their lives to avoid saying something they do not want to. Adults do it sometimes when they want to keep their children happy and avoid them from being sad if parents tell them the truth. Now children do lie quite more than adults for their own reasons. Lies are told around the world multiple times during the day. Everyone sitting in this room has probably once today, said a lie. Sometimes lying is understandable for someone’s protection but sometimes the truth is essential to the person. There are multiple things people say in a day that are seen as lies such as “That outfit looks really good on you!,” “It wasn’t me!” and “I’ll be with you in a few minutes.” Honestly is not always the best policy because in the end it does not make everything better. People tell little lies so that they protect someone they care about and not hurt the feelings of another person. Honesty not always being the best policy is showed in The Scarlet Letter, “Tell All The Truth” poem, the “He Lies” video,…

The dictionary defines a lie as, “a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.” However, while the intent of a lie is to deceive, that deceit is not always intended to cause detriment to others. Lies can be told for justifiable reasons such as to protect the feelings of others, but more often lies are told for the wrong reasons. For example, lies are mostly told to avoid the consequences of one’s actions such as with criminal activities and academic misconduct. When comparing acceptable and unacceptable reasons to lie, the unacceptable reasons greatly outnumber the acceptable.…

We exaggerate, we leave out things, we avoid confrontation, we try to be inconsideration of other people feelings, we conveniently forget some aspects of the truth and even keep secrets. It is curious to think that any one person could be telling a lie without knowing that they are. In the essay “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson, she explores the thought of how lies are incorporated into everyday life. According to this essay, “We lie. We all do. We exaggerate, we minimize, we avoid confrontation, we spare people’s feelings, we conveniently forget, we keep secrets, we justify lying to the big-guy institutions”. How do we know what the truth is, when we are told what we want to hear? Ericsson writes about ten different “lies,” all of which are commonly used. Ericsson speaks about different lies to justify peoples’ actions and thought, even though some of the lies are oversimplified and basic fundamentals are left out.…
