Why Do Sexual Double Standards Exist

Should the sexual double standard still exist? What is sexual double standard? Should both Men and Women judge one another on their sexual life? No, I do not think there should be a sexual double standard, but unfortunately it still exist. In today’s world everyone knows there is a double sexual standard. Ask any survey male or female and they'll tell you that women are judged more harshly than men for engaging in the same actions, especially when those behaviors are casual sex or sex with lots of partners. I think everyone should not be judged what happened in the past or present, but in some cases they should be judged. The belief that women and men are held to different standards of sexual conduct is pervasive in contemporary American society. According to society the sexual double standard, boys and men are rewarded and praised for heterosexual sexual contacts, whereas girls and women are derogated and stigmatized for similar behaviors. When it comes to gender, double standards are alive and well. Let’s face it despite all of the advances toward gender equality, many people still expect different things from men and women.
Even though sexual double standard should not exist we are surrounded by many influences (TV, Radio, Music Lyrics and Social Media) that may or may not change our minds. “Men are socialized to initiate and social orchestrate sexual interactions, whereas women socialized to be restrictors or responders, simultaneously concerned about harming their sexual reputations and fulfilling men’s sexual needs” (Dworkin and O’Sulliven, Diversity in Families). I think this statement has a lot to do how most teens and women act because they are attracted to their mate and they want to fulfill men sexual needs and let’s face it boys and men like to talk and that is how women reputation gets
