This battle was between the Americans and the Soviet Union. Russia, which later became the Soviet Union, was for the political system of communism. Communism is a system of government in which the state has power over the economy, and a dictator takes over and says they will bring order and balance to everything by making sure everybody gets the equal amount of shared goods. That would be a horribly detestable life to live. For twenty four years Josef Stalin ruled as a dictator over Europe and he tried to spread communism world-wide. Despite his efforts to gain complete domination of Europe and turn it into a communist country, he was not gaining much ground. Especially not with the United States getting in the way and adding on the fact that the odds were in the favor of the U.S. from the beginning. They had the advantage of money, supremacy, and the ability to protect Europe with its weapons, army, and such, while poor Europe was rebuilding itself from the damages done in World War II.
