For example, their parents will complain about bad grades, their friends will look down and laugh at them. Cheating can get that person a passing grade, but they still do not learn anything. Cheating used to be considered an unmentionable sin. However, in this day and age, it has become more common and somewhat of a daily occurrence. Cheating is more widespread today than in the past. According to the article titled Education: The New Morality, cheating has not been an issue of values, but simply one of practicality. This shows that many view cheating as a mere occurrence and something that can often be skipped over. The reason cheating has become such a pervasive movement is because many students tend to rationalize their cheating behavior. A common rationalization that many students use is, " That 's the only way I 'll get anywhere in life." Many students also tend to incorporate reasons, such as parental pressures, the aim to be the best, and the lack of time, with their dishonest behavior.…

First of all, kids will copy off other students in order to complete their work on time. They will be rewarded for something that doesn’t benefit them. Cheating doesn’t help students remember the topic, because they are just copying it down, and not actually practicing it, which is the whole point of homework in the first place. Secondly, students will start to cheat on homework because as they get older all of the pressure to succeed grows, they need to help a friend who is also struggling, or they are just so confused because the topic didn’t stick with them when they got home. This shows that kids will start to cheat because they don’t understand the topic and there’s a lot of pressure to get it all done. The fact that kids feel the need to actually cheat is really bad, because cheating can result in very harsh punishments. Another example is Jennifer O’Donnell from the website Verywell says, “It's possible that a child cheats simply because he or she doesn't understand the subject matter, and is afraid to ask for help or admit confusion. These kids may embarrass easily, and they may cheat simply because they don't want to draw attention to themselves for failing to comprehend the material.” A lot of kids feel scared to turn in their homework the next day because it’s all wrong, and they’ll think that the teacher will think that they are dumb, even if they’re…

The lenient consequences that are given to students for cheating, is another factor that is causing an increase in cheating. Penalties for getting caught cheating are mild. If someone was caught cheating, that assignment or test is usually confiscated, and you were given a zero for that assignment. However, your parents were not called, and you were not suspended. Getting a zero on one assignment doesn’t hurt that much and the cheater doesn’t even learn a lesson. Due to the light consequences, students cheat even more in school.…
