Why Do We Need Gun Control?

The second amendment states: “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Our forefathers have given us this right [to bear arms] for the purpose of fighting against tyranny and protecting ourselves from evil. While the NRA emphasize on the last 14 words, pro-gun advocates focus on the words “well-regulated militia” and “security of a Free State” to rule that Second Amendment rights are reserved to states and their organized militia (Cohen). It is unconstitutional to violate the second amendment, especially when legitimate studies have proven that guns are more beneficial in the hands of the average citizen than it is not. Those who feel that the execution of gun control will limit crime do not realize that they are necessary for self-defense against crime.
Guns are powerful weapons in any way they are viewed—they can be used to cause destruction and harm, to defend and protect, and to threaten and kill—they are powerful tools in the physical and social matter.
The banning of guns is unconstitutional and strips us of our ability to defend ourselves. National Rifle Association CEO and Executive vice president Wayne LaPierre concludes: “The best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” LaPierre explains in this quote that the gun is not the issue, but it is the person who wields it. Gun control laws are made to keep homicide rates to a minimum, but a comparison between gun control law strength and homicide rates shows no correlation. As citizens of the United Sates we are given the freedom to bear firearms to protect ourselves. Enforcing gun control strips us of our constitutional right, does not effectively save lives, and only helps the criminals go along with their
days.
