Why do people like vampire movies?
What are vampires? Since the early nineteenth century, vampires were depicted as the undead, they sleep in coffins, are pale bloodsucking demons who can turn into bats, wolves, and fog. Vampires can’t survive without fresh blood whether it’s from a male or female they bite you and suck the blood right out of your neck. Vampires are famous for seducing women almost daily. Vampires are immortal; they live forever unless you cut off their head, arms and legs and burn their body, Oh and you have to put a wooden steak into their hear and can’t stand in direct sunlight. If vampires are so monstrous and hideous why are they so popular, mysterious and alluring? With the popularity of the Twilight series, “Interview with a Vampire”, “True Blood”, “Lost Girl”, “Underworld” and my favorite “Blade” vampires have evolved and have continued to capture people’s imagination. They no longer are just coffin lying, shadow loitering demons that the media initially perceived them to be. Although vampires have always been depicted as monsters they have been transformed. There is something about these gothic symbols of manhood that make every woman weak in the neck. Is it their style, their power or just their flair for the romantic? It might be a combination of all of the above that makes these thousand-year old walking corpses so damn appealing to the opposite sex. There is a lot about vampires that men can learn from. The current movie culture has combined savagery with elegance, imagination and power.
If vampires were simply savage killing machines then it is doubtful they would be as appealing. Instead, the idea that they rely on murder to survive combined with the face that they are in general charming and regal seems to be a good combination of traits.
