On the other hand, it does not mean that the level of conflict should be high, but it is evident that it is not possible for a society that is free from conflicts.
This is because people in a given culture will always have a society that in inevitably divided into groups; these groups eventually face conflicts. For example, most of the Western countries such as the United States have divided itself into groups such as ethnic and racial groups (Friedberg, 2006). Consequently, we believe that people in the various groups, such as race, are different from the other group(s). The groups created also believe that they have varying economic and political interests and contributions to the society. This creates conflict that is based on ethnicity and racial
grounds.
Consequently, measures should be taken to reduce the levels of conflicts happening in our societies. Firstly, I think it’s good to define the purpose of the groups formed in society; the ethnicity and race-based groups should be discouraged because they result in conflicts. Secondly, it is good to encourage all the people in a given society to participate in activities that bring the people together despite their race, gender, or ethnicity. Thirdly, it is good to treat all the people equally; and society should discourage the rich from taking advantage of the poor. For instance, the wealth takes advantage of the poor by using their wealth to hold power and make laws that are beneficial to them. In addition, the education system should focus on teaching cultural, gender and economic equality.
Lastly, the economy needs to improve in order for conflict to reduce. A stable economy creates jobs, reduces crime, increases salaries, decreases tension, increases happiness etc. Most importantly, as a society, we must focus on finding a solution to political divide or it’ll lead to dangerous conflicts. One suggestion is teaching the children that different political affiliations doesn’t make each other enemies, since everyone has a different point of view as to the way life should be lived. In addition, social media should be restricted to those that are under the age of 18 years old. Social media is a major contributing factor in causing conflicts. Social media gives people a sense of courage to say whatever they feel even if it is offensive, disturbing, violent, sexual etc. This is not healthy because many of them wouldn’t have said that publicly. In addition, social media displays content that is not morally right for those that are under the age of 18; negatively influencing children through observational learning. Most importantly, opinions turn into arguments. According to my opinion, society needs to understand the importance of interpersonal relationships. At a young age even through adolescent and adulthood, one must focus on improving and developing interpersonal skills and solidarity! I truly believe that’ll reduce conflict in our society. All in all, society must feel secure, safe and content. Sadly, conflict is unavoidable. The future could increase conflict even if we reduce it presently.
