Education is not being push on to Hispanics. Many Hispanic parents don’t push their child to their potential and many Hispanics who do go to college and graduate don’t come back to their neighborhood and become mentors to the Hispanic youth. Instead, the mentors are the drug leaders or the gang members who show the youth how to commit crime and get quick money. The system of school to prison pipeline robs young Hispanics from their future. Young Latinos don’t have a change to get an education if their youth is spent in juvenile detention centers and then in prison. I live in a neighborhood where many young Hispanics believe that education doesn’t get you anywhere, it’s too expensive, and leaves huge debt on a person. It is hard for my friends who are Hispanic to progress in life and get a higher education when they are being targeted because of the war on drugs. It is even harder for my friends who are immigrant students because of the restrictions against immigrant students in Texas. Another barrier for Hispanic immigrant students is the patriot act, which was meant to fight against terrorist, but it has targeted and deported many immigrant students, and deported hard working parents. This causes families breaks up. Education needs to be important to every Latino in order to start making change in ourselves, change in our community, and break this cycle in order to get
