Why is it okay for a criminal to get married but two completely innocent people of the same gender can’t? According to the Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia, marriage is a basic human right and same-sex marriages should be treated equally. Just because you believe same sex marriage goes against your religion is not a fair argument because everyone has different beliefs. You ask why it should be legalized but I ask why should someone be able to chose who marries who? We were a country founded on freedom and now basic rights are being taken away from American citizens.
Throughout the years many high profile killers have been married while behind bars such as;
Richard Ramirez, The Menendez Brothers, and Kenneth Bianchi. The most recent to possibly be married behind bars is Charles Manson. So let me ask you this why do convicted criminals have more privileges than gays. The government says same-sex marriage is unconstitutional but letting a
man that orchestrated 7 brutal murders get married is constitutional? I don’t believe thats right in any religion, government, or even in general.
In the Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia a black women named Mildred
Loving and a white man named Richard Loving were sent to prison for interracial marriage back in 1967. When the supreme court made a unanimous decision to overturn the previous law made by the case Pace v. Alabama (1883). Loving v. Virginia states that:
“Marriage is one of the "basic civil rights of man," fundamental to our very existence and survival.... To deny this fundamental freedom on so unsupportable a basis as the racial classifications embodied in these statutes, classifications so directly subversive of the principle of equality at the heart of the Fourteenth Amendment, is surely to deprive all the State's citizens of liberty without due process of law. The Fourteenth
Amendment requires that the freedom of choice to marry not be restricted by invidious racial
