By arming teachers or the staff that helps to support schools will only increase the level of liability in schools. Kenneth S. Trump, President of National School Safety and Security Services said "School districts considering arming teachers and school staff with guns would take on significant responsibility and potential liabilities that I firmly believe are beyond the expertise, knowledge-base, experience, and professional capabilities of most school boards and administrators," it is short-sighted for those supporting the idea to believe that educators who enter a profession to teach and serve a supportive, nurturing role with children could abruptly kick into the mindset to kill someone in a second's notice. Police and military personal train their entire career for these kind of situations. They are trained and placed into situations that require them to be in the mindset that they may have to take a life. This is the opposite of the caring role of a teacher.…

Banning Guns Cannot Prevent School Shootings! Imagine yourself at the scene of the Virginia Tech shooting. You hide under the desk that you were sitting at peacefully just moments ago. Gun shots ring though the air as you sit curled up on the cold floor, wondering who the next victim of the evil rampage will be. Don’t you wish you could have had a gun in this moment? Don’t you wish you had a way to defend yourself against the murderer?…

Adam Winker was right with his many reasonings of how guns do not bring a better outcome as if there was a law that let people carry guns into schools. People will not feel safer if those who are trying to protect them are the ones that are accidentally shooting them because of a mistake of figuring the…

Picture a class of twenty elementary students hidden under desks around the classroom, and the teacher is begging the children to stop sobbing. Down the hall the sound of gunshots ring out the sounds of people screaming and begging for help can be heard. The shooter is moving closer and closer to the area and all the innocent soon to be victims are defenseless. There is nothing in that classroom that is going to stop what is about to happen. Now imagine a teacher with a handgun that could at least scare off the shooter, or deter them from advancing into the room. Many people frown upon teachers being able to carry a handgun on school grounds, but if they only knew that the thing they frown upon could possibly be saving their kids life. It makes perfect sense that teachers should be able to carry a handgun if and only if they go through the proper training and tests.…

Having guns on campus would not be a very healthy learning environment. When students sit in a classroom, they should not have the fear of one of their classmates pulling out a gun. If students are too busy thinking about guns being on campus, it could distract them from actually working. This issue might even extend to not wanting to go to school because they feel unsafe and uncomfortable. Also not a very healthy teaching environment for teachers. The teachers might be scared that a student would pull a gun out on him or her…

People think that’s it’s a bad idea, but some people think it’s a good idea. Some colleges don’t have guns allowed on campus. Supporters say that there are twenty three colleges that ban guns on campus. This brings me to my next point. Mass shootings are a bad problem in America because people are defenseless in school. Advocates said "The University was the scene of the nation's first campus mass shooting on Aug. 1, 1966, when a sniper, Charles Whiteman, fired at people from the school's clock tower in a day of violence that left 16 people dead."(Fernandez, 3) in addition to this statement. Kids feel safer in school when they have something to defend themselves. Those in favor said, "After a combined total of approximately 2,000 semesters…

Guns do a lot of bad, but do a lot more good for society. Banning guns will not stop the problem, but will just make it worse. Guns are apart of our society as Americans they have been around since colonial years, and are not leaving anytime soon. “The number of guns in America has increased by more than 50 percent since 1993, and in that same period the gun homicide rate in the United States has dropped by half. (Kristof, The Times).” Guns offer protection for individuals. One day you could be in the wrong place at the wrong time, and a shooting breaks out, you will pray there is someone else there with a concealed firearm to help control the situation while waiting for police to arrive. They can’t do that if guns are banned. “We need to understand that we cannot stop crimes and murders. And banning guns would be a step, or two, backwards instead of moving forward in the right direction (The Times News).” The research conducted to produce this paper was drawn from a multitude of sources all with different…

There is no safety guaranteed for school officials and students to have guns at the campus. In fact having concealed guns in colleges and universities have increased shooting incidences throughout the country over the recent years. According to Dickerson Darby there have been many tragedies that have been directly linked with allowing guns in campuses. The most recent are the tragedies at Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois, Appalachian School of Law and the University of Huntsville on February 2010, among others that have illustrated the danger that guns on campuses pose to innocent people. In Isla Vista, California, Elliot Rodger, 22, went on rampage on a Friday night shooting and killing three random people. This and many more other cases just show how dangerous guns can be on colleges and campuses.…

Picture sitting in school while people next to you possess guns. Though this may sound a bit farfetched, it can happen. Due to the second amendment of the Constitution, one has the right to bear arms. It is reasonable that people would want access to guns for the sport of hunting though. But allowing people to "carry" guns is reckless. Firearms should be outlawed because they have granted children access to kill easily, inflated the murder rate in the United States, were created to kill, and have inflated the murder rate in the United States.…
