It was around 1976 when His Holiness started to recommend against the Doegyal practice. Initially, His Holiness did the Shugden practice for a long time. In the meantime time, he was investigating the nature and role of the spirit. After a thorough investigation, he came to a definite conclusion that it was more harmful than beneficial. So, he advised us better not to follow Doegyal practice. His Holiness admitted openly not once, many times that he made a mistake of doing Shugden practice. He explained a proper way of relying on worldly spirits in accordance with the general Buddhist teaching. Generally speaking, the invocation of local gods and nagas is a widespread practice in our Tibetan Society. His holiness says that it is wrong according to Buddhism to trust your life completely in them. In addition, when we look at the generations of great Geluk lamas, starting from the time of the great Fifth Dalai Lama, 6th Dalai Lama, the 7th Dalai lama, his tutor, Trichen Ngawang chokden, his disciple chankya Rolpai Dorjee, Thugyen choeky Nyima, the 8th Dalai lama Jamphel Gyatso, Nyulchu Dharmapada, Penchen Tenpai Wangchuk, the 13th Dalai Lama, the 14th Dalai lama are extremely critical of
