Mencken once said, “Honor is simply the morality of superior men” (Brainyquote). Honor is something that every person should strive to have, as very few people have it. Honor has been around for a very long time. If one has honor, he is very valuable because he can be trusted with everything he does. Honor is the quality that allows one to be respected by their peers.
The first thing I think about when I hear the word honor is the ability to be trusted by one’s peers. If one has honor, he can be trusted in anything that he does. Having honor can be very valuable in everyday life. For example, having honor can help a person to both get and keep a job. If one’s boss discovers that he can trust one of his workers with important tasks, the boss will be inclined to keep putting him in charge, and that worker might eventually get promoted.
Sophocles once said, “Rather fail with honor than succeed by fraud” (Lifehackquotes). Honor is very important to a student at Jesuit. It is pounded into one’s head that cheating is not tolerated at Jesuit from the time one enters in eighth-grade. When

Honor commitments, and they will double back to honor you” (Bestofquotes). Honor is great to have because if someone is honorable to everyone he knows, everyone he knows will tend to be honorable back to them and vice versa. Some of the most honorable men in the world are police men and firefighters. These men and women are forced to do honorable actions almost every day of their lives. Whether the firefighter is running into a burning building to save a child, or a policeman is stepping into the line of fire to save a hostage, they are always required to do honorable actions. Because they do such honorable deeds, civilians will be more inclined to help them if they see a firefighter or policeman in

When discussing the high-minded man and his pursuit of honor, one must establish how necessary honor is. Aristotle states, "Honor fits that description, for it is the greatest of all external goods. Consequently, it is in matters of honor and dishonor that a high-minded man has the right attitude."(bk 4, 1123b, 19-22) Aristotle defines the high-minded man as someone who feels that they deserve honor and are correct in their assumption. Honour and certainty are both qualities an individual may desire having. To be honoured by one’s name, or to be certain that through life they’ve made the right decisions. Honour is a clear sense of what is right and proper while maintaining great respect; certainty is freedom from doubt. In a sense these two traits are connected; with honour comes certainty, and with certainty comes honour. People want to be certain that what they are doing is right and will be satisfying in the end. With certainty in actions comes pride and honour with the results. Although before the pride and honour come into play, the right decision must be made and making this decision is a struggle for most individuals. Deceiving and conniving may seem simpler than being honest and working hard. There may seem like many quick and easy ways to do things at the last minute but they aren’t honorable. In Hamlet, William Shakespeare suggests that individuals struggle to restore honour and certainty because of procrastination and deception.…

There are many concepts, that Americans are exposed to- and even use- in their regular day to day lives, that are not very clearly defined. Maybe these concepts are too confusing. Or too broad to clearly understand. Or they’re just vague. Or, perhaps, maybe these concepts simply are not valued enough within that American “go-go-go” mindset to have time taken to really think about and understand what they mean. One of these cheapened, romanticized concepts, is honor. Honor always has, and always will, exist in some way or form in every single society, including America, however morphed and faded it might be.…
