Why I Love Soccer

If you know me, you know I love soccer. I love soccer because soccer is where I am comfortable. I am comfortable in my favorite pair of cleats, when playing on my home field on Bell Road, and when I’m with my team. Although I love the feeling of comfort, the only thing I would choose over it is the feeling of discomfort. That gut wrenching feeling when you take a step out of your comfort zone, that moment when you are trying something for the first time, and you are not sure on how it will turn out. Thus, if I’m not playing soccer, I’m most likely trying something new. Whether it’s with my friends on the weekend, or by myself on an adventure, I believe that life is truly more exotic when you are trying new things and that the most memorable experiences in life occur when you are
I had never competitively played bowling before, and I wasn’t even that good when playing my friends and family, so why would I be good on a High School team? These doubts squandered my brain all day. The uncertainty of the sport excited me, I had absolutely no idea if I would like anyone on the team or be any good, and I had to find out. Now you are probably expecting for me to go on about how I made seven strikes the first day of tryouts and that meet my closest friends that day, but in reality, almost every ball I played was a gutter, and I haven’t talked to any of the teammates since. After tryouts that day I returned my rented shoes and rather than murmuring on how I wasted my time, I was relieved. I was relieved because although I truly did suck at the sport and didn’t mix with the other players, I will never wonder if I would be any good. Although it took everything for me to step into the bowling alley that day, and although I was the worst one there, I am content today knowing that I could never be a state bowling player. I would take being the worst bowling player over wondering how good I am any day, wouldn’t
