Why I Want To Be A Spanish Major Essay

I am a second generation Latino and Spanish is my native language; Furthermore, enhancing my communication skills is always an ongoing objective. Studying a Spanish major has helped me with my ongoing objective in addition to expanding my prior knowledge of the language and the culture. The initial courses I took, Advanced Spanish Grammar and Spanish Composition, taught me about dialect and grammar. I also went on to take literature courses where I learned about important writers and texts. The Spanish Major also included courses in regards to Spanish history and culture.

A memorable moment of the Spanish major is how I was able to connect with a part of my culture that I never knew existed. Initially I felt that I was very educated in my history but the Spanish major actually helped me to get in touch with my roots. I was able to connect with my roots through history, literature, and language. Because of this I was able to establish a new sense of respect for my culture and the other Spanish speaking cultures.

The most memorable moment is how welcoming the professors and students of the Spanish program are. The professors immediately make it known that we are all here for each other and to help each other advance. I know that I can count on my peers and professors when in need of help. The environment in the Spanish program itself is very open and welcoming, which gives you the feeling that others want to see you progress which ultimately makes you feel like you are on the right path towards
