Generations of people have lived in America, and each generation has held its own opinion on what being an American means. Every individual has their own story of how they came to be American and what they believe that this title can do for them. I grew up here. My parents and grandparents grew up here. You can accomplish anything you want here as long as you don’t break the wrong rules. To some people we are just lazy, obese Americans that are ruining the world, but that is not true. Through our freedoms and rights we have been able to accomplish many things and continue to strive to become better people. We earned these rights and freedoms through determination, ingenuity, and the development of a dream, for the best country in the world. The hard work and dedication that it takes to make it anywhere, opens doors for people of every shape, color, and size. The diversity of the American people allows us to be an improved people. “Oh! Say, can you see by the dawn’s early light what so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?” In the hearts of so many Americans, these words still ring so true and proud. Today, there are still individuals who choose to wave the flag of their country proudly. Those people should be examples for every citizen of this great nation as they are truly patriots. A patriot, as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is a person who loves and strongly supports of fights for his or her country. Now, when one begins to think of patriots, their mind immediately goes to men like Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and Paul Revere, but do we as Americans truly consider all who are patriots? What can we do to be patriots ourselves? According to www.raymondinegypt.tripod.com, citizens must have four aspects to be considered a…

I believe that it is a privilege that as American citizens we can play a role in our government. I have always been engrossed by politics. When I was four years old and trick or treating in Parma, every house that I went to that had a George W. Bush sign in their front yard I told them not to vote for him because he would raise their taxes. Surprisingly, they all still gave me candy. Probably because I am still young, I have this crazy dream that I am going to make the world a better place. I am going to do everything in my power to make that dream a reality. Beginning at a young age, I learned what being poor looks like. I learned what it was like to be hungry, to be around drug addicts, to have parents who would rather buy cigarettes than baby formula. One day, I want to make it better for all…

People often say things about how the United States, with its revolutionary political and economic system, must have been around for a long time in order to achieve the world standing it holds today. This isn’t the case though. In fact, when compared to great civilizations like the Roman Empire which lasted almost 12 centuries, many would say that the United States is still in its infancy. Much in the same way, the political and economic systems the U.S. is famous for are seen to be derived from past civilizations as well. But this of course leads us to asking the inevitable questions of where did it all begin, and what caused people to settle here in America of all places. In order to answer this however, we have to look back past explorers and crusades. Past the kings, uprisings, revolts, and trade routes. We must go back in time to the Roman Empire itself, specifically in the year 476 BCE; the time when everything was falling apart in Rome.…

As American citizens, we are taught in schools, and by the people around us that our responsibility is to follow laws, and keep the peace. That being a respectable, and dependable American that people can count on is what it is all about. But as a person that was raised in a family of immigrants, lucky enough to be born in the USA and to really reap the benefits. It’s hard to say that those standards justify the magnitude of what it means to have a responsibility towards an entire country.…

My responsibility to being an American citizen is two have a job and fix cars. Fixing cars is a major job and I don’t think that someone should do a half job on it because if you don’t have a car that’s properly running it could potentially mess up and injure people even yourself and others around you. One thing I think is a responsibility of being an American citizen is to have a job. Because if we all have jobs no one will be going hungry, there will be more responsible citizens and I think less crime involving stealing because if you don’t have a job you would probably have to steal to get by and be able to live off that and stealing items from a place or person would have to make them spend more money and it just makes everything absolutely worse.…
