Why Is America Still Relevant Today

The United States, according to the pledge that most students across the country say every school day, is a nation “with liberty and justice for all”. America has prided itself on its diverse yet harmonious nature since its founding in the sixteenth century. People like Thomas Paine have considered America to be one of the best nations based on this principle. However, over time, people have started to question whether or not the United States meets these characteristics. The country still seems to find itself in various predicaments that challenge the ideals of liberty and equality. While America is certainly a diverse country, full of people from several different backgrounds like Paine said, his argument that the country is completely amicable isn’t accurate due to the persisting rights conflicts across the nation.
People from Mexico, Germany, Greece, Nigeria, Burma, China, Britain, and more help make up the US population. There are Catholic, Amish, Jewish, and Islamic communities all over the country. Citizens of all different shapes, sizes, colors, and beliefs have found a place in America. Just look at today’s American celebrities: although they make up a very small part of the country, they help represent the American people. There are British pop stars like Ed Sheeran and Adele. There are Asian-American comedians like Ali Wong and Ken Jeong. There are African American actors, like Leslie Odom Jr., Viola Davis, and Lupita Nyong’o. A wide range of people from all over the world help make the US the country that it is
