Is it fair to take the life of an individual for something they have done? Is it justified to end the existence of a human beings life for crimes they commit? Capital punishment is the act of punishing someone’s crimes with death. It is currently legal in 31 states in the United States and is a very controversial topic that has recently been under discussion. Capital punishment is not wrong and is justified under the right circumstances.
To begin, capital punishment is justified because it prevents a person from ever being able to hurt anyone every again. If someone is locked in jail for life, it does not always mean they are in there for life. Sometimes prisoners can escape or get out on parole. This gives them the opportunity to kill or hurt someone again. Capital punishment kills the criminal and stops that from even being a possibility. These reason could be anywhere from feeling that the courts are too racially biased or even because the juries feel like the death penalty is given too often so they will try their hardest to stop an execution from being the final ruling. These are the problems with capital punishment and also some of the circumstances where the death penalty might not be justified. When society already thinks it knows the verdict for a criminal, it makes the whole case a waste of time and does the opposite of what the case is trying to accomplish. They are trying to accomplish justice and justice cannot be accomplished without a fair court case. Also some lawyers do not provide a strong enough case which leads to the jury believing that the defendant is in fact guilty.
