As the Salt Lake Tribune reads “In the global economy we live in, being bilingual is obviously desirable. For example, Elena Izquierdo, former principal at Oyster Elementary School in Washington, D.C., says that the most avid supporters of bilingual education there are not Latinos. They are black and white professionals who know the advantages of their children being bilingual” (Rodriguez A.7.). These parents want their kids to be bilingual because they believe that the their kids can benefit greatly from speaking two languages. People do not like the fact that foreigners are bringing in different languages and they want that diverse part of America gone. As the VFW Magazine reads, The founding fathers of America wrote the Constitution, Bill of Rights and other important documents in English but still failed to make English the official language. The fact that English was not the official language of America didn’t really matter because immigrants would care enough to learn English or at least have their children learn English but now they don’t even seem to care to learn the American language. English is what kept America together even though it was becoming a melting pot (Turbak). These people believe that English is what makes Americans and want English to be the official and only language in the nation but this is a new era and diversity is what America is now made up of.
