To ensure laws are followed
The reason policies and procedures should be followed to ensure laws are being adhered, some example of laws which need to be followed in the role of an it technician are The health and safety act, The data protection act, The computer misuse act and The WEEE act.
An example of a policy or procedure for each law is as followed
The data protection act, each employee should have a user name and password to gain access to the network each user will have access rights and permissions so as confidential or personal information about employees is only seen by employees who need to view such information.
The health and safety act, each employee is responsible for their own and others health and safety, if a hazard is seen it must be reported to the appropriate member of staff.
The WEEE act, hard drives must be disposed of properly using WEEE. This will ensure that data is not stolen and it is disposed of properly so as not to cause harm to the environment.
The computer misuse act, all employees must log off whenever they leave their computer, this will ensure other people cannot view data not concerning them.
To ensure good working practices are carried out
The reason policies and procedures need to be followed to ensure good working practices are carried out is, so as when a task is being completed in the work place, there will be a really good way to do the task and there could also be some poor ways to carry out the task the company will decided which way they would like a task carrying out so as to increase productivity and efficiency. An example of a policy or procedure that would ensure good working practices could be, all employees must fill out a fault log when completing any work on a computer this will ensure work isn’t carried out twice and
